Who are Future Africa Scholars?

The Future Africa Scholars Program is a half-year learning experience with a writing and research-intensive focus aimed at preparing the next generation of high impact public sector leaders for the continent to be able to research and write for impact. The program is based on an expert-curated curriculum. We believe that if more young people envision careers in the public sector, there is a higher possibility of seeing long-term success for political and economic stability.

Today, the public sector does not attract enough young people for several reasons. Principally, knowledge about the public sector is limited and negative perceptions are rife. The purpose of the Future Africa Scholars Program is to equip young African leaders with the requisite skills for research and communication in order to address misconceptions about the public sector and prepare young people for careers of leadership. The Program is open to young people aged 21-25 who have completed high school.

Each year, Future Africa recruits and trains a cohort of Scholars across the continent who join the Future Africa leadership network.

What makes this program unique?

  • We are bridging the gap between young leaders and public sector engagement;
  • We are engaging in critical conversations around topical issues that will shape the future of our societies;
  • We are connecting like-minded young people across the continent and providing a platform to exchange ideas and inspire each other;
  • We are providing a platform for young leaders to take their first steps in activating their public interests.
  • We are equipping aspiring public sector leaders with much-needed research and communication skills.
